"Untitled" (Part 2)

by: Anonymous

The morning of December 31. The crew is awakened by loud yelling outside.

Leela: What the hell was that?

Fry: The New Year celebration has already begun.

Bender: When did it begin?

Fry: When the ball that I mentioned about yesterday was raised to the top of its flagpole.

The crew turns on the TV set and watches a little bit of the "Today" show which ges boring later on.

Leela: This show is soooo boring. I hope there is another channel that is brodcasting the beginning of the new millennium all over the world.

Fry then flicks the channel to the ABC affiliate.

Fry: Bingo. Just what you were looking for, Leela.

Leela: Great.

The program was showing how the new year just arrived in Tokyo and how the Japanese were celebrating.

I think that I will watch this all day.

Later in the afternoon. The new year is just about to arrive in London.

Bender: What's that?[He points at a huge clock tower along the river Thames.]

Fry: That is Big Ben, England's most famous clock and probably the most famous clock in the world.

Just then Big Ben strikes twelve.

Leela: That is the deepest clock bell that I have ever heard.

[Scene 2]

The crew is getting ready to go out to dinner when Bender discovers a mantel clock on the wall.

11:00 NY time. The crew had just returned from dinner.

Fry: Well, the moment I came here to see is about one hour away.

11:55 NY time. Leela sees the mantel clock and asks Fry if he could set the minute hand to midnight.

Fry: Why?

Leela: Because I want to hear that clock strike and I also want to see that ball drop.

Fry sets the minute hand to twelve. The Westminister chime, followed by the twelve bongs of midnight, are heard from the clock. Later, the crew turns on the TV and Katie Couric is explaining how much fun it was to see the new year come in all around the world. Tom Brokaw ends it by saying "Katie, we have a minute to go." Fifty seconds later, the countdown was getting very loud.

Everyone: Ten....Nine....Eight....Seven....Six....FIVE....FOUR.... THREE....TWO....ONE....YEAH!!!!!! The crowd cheers as 2000 lights up, the fireworks begin, and New Year's music begins.

Leela: WOW!! Back in the 30th century the New Year's celebrations were NEVER this exciting!

Bender: I agree.

Later in the morning. The crew is getting ready to go back to the 30th century.

Leela: I admit it. This was a wonderful experience.

Fry then pushes the "Start" button and ,within ten seconds, return to the 30th century.

Leela: We're back!

Bender: Look what I brought with me![He holds up the mantel clock.]

Fry: This clock will be a reminder of thee celebration we saw a thousand years ago.

He hangs the clock up on a wall.
