Morning at Planet Express.
Farnsworth[to the crew]: Since there are no deliveries today, you can have the day off.
Leela: Professor, do you remember the time you built a time machine and you let Fry test it out first?
Farnsworth: Yes.
Leela: I was wondering when my turn to use it would come.
Farnsworth: If you want to use it today, feel free to do so.
Fry: Leela, where in time were you thinking of going?
Leela: I have always wanted to see my favorite historical era, The Old West.
Bender: Let's go already!
They get into the machine and Leela sets the destination time to December 1st, 1889. She then pushes the start button. A few seconds later the machine finishes the timewarp and they take a short drive to a small town called Hill Valley.
Leela: Well, we're here.
Fry: Shouldn't we try to hide the machine so that nobody can find it?
Leela: Yes. [She looks at the fuel gauge.] Oh my god! We're out of fuel and I forgot to bring extra dark matter! How will we ever expect to get back?!
Bender: All we have to do is find someone who might possibly have the answer.
The three go th the town's blacksmith and scientist, Dr. Hubble. Hubble finds out that the crew is from the future and that the machine is out of fuel.
Hubble: I'm sorry Miss Leela, but I have no idea what dark matter is. How is the machine powered?
Leela[reading the machine's instruction manual]: According to this, the machine uses dark matter to get up to 100 mph. Then an electral charge from the generator zaps a certain electrical component and the machine is propelled into the past or future, whatever the destination time is set to.
Hubble: Bingo. If I can think of something that can get up to 100 mph, maybe it can push your car into the year 3000.
Text on screen: One week later. The three have gotten to know Hubble and his daughter. She finds Fry romantically attractive.
Fry: Is there anything in this town that I need to watch out for?
Stacy Hubble: Yes. The only man that you must avoid is Buford McFly, the city gunman. His short temper and a tendency to drool earned him the nickname "Mad Dog".
December 31st. Hill Valley is getting ready for a big New Years's celebration and Dr. Hubble still hasn't found a power source for the time machine to get back to the future. Worst of all, he's caught a deadly disease and the town doctor is unsure whether he is going to live or die.
Stacy: Fry, do you want to go to the celebration tonight?
Fry: Yes.
During the celebration. 1890 has already arrived and Fry and Stacy are dancing the night away when Buford McFly and his henchmen arrive at the celebration.
Buford[seeing Fry dance with Stacy]: That bastard is dancing with my girlfriend!!
Buford sneaks behind Fry and Stacy. When they least expect it, he yells at them to halt. They do, and the crowd backs up.
Fry[angry]: Who the hell do you think you are? You broke up the dancing between me and my new girlfriend!!
Buford: Listen to me!! She is MY girl!!
Stacy: Buford McFly, when in the hell will you leave me alone?! I never loved or even liked you! [points at Fry] This man is my true love!!
Fry: Beat it, Mad Dog McFly!
Buford[angry and yelling]: I HATE THAT NAME!! I HATE IT, YOU HEAR?! NOBODY CALLS ME MAD DOG! NOT EVEN A CHICKENSHIT YELLOW BELLY SAPSUCKER WHO STOLE THE GIRL I ADMIRED!!
Buford reaches for his gun but realizes that the marshall ordered him to give up the gun if he wanted to join in the celebration.
Buford: I'll finish this disagreement tomorrow!!
Henchman#1: Tomorrow we are robbing the bank.
Buford[to his henchmen]: Are we doing anything the day after tomorrow?[They shake their heads no.][to Fry]I will be back soon to settle this disagreement!![to his henchmen]Let's go boys!!
The next morning. A cuckoo clock cuckoos eight times, and and a machine Hubble invented prepares breakfast for the crew. Later during the day Stacy is talking to Fry about what they can use to get back to the year 3000 when Dr. Hubble admits he's in pain. He lies down on his bed.
Hubble[in a weak voice]: Quick, get the doctor. I feel that I am about to die.
The four of them rush to get the doctor but they are too late. Hubble died just seconds after they went for the doctor. The next day, Fry and Stacy realized that this was the day that Buford McFly would be coming back to settle the disagreement.
Stacy: How will you get past him without being killed?
Fry[he points to a wood burning stove]: Stacy, disconnect the door to that stove and give it to me.
Stacy: Why?
Fry: I intend to use it as a bullet stopper around my chest. If Buford attempts to shoot at my heart, the steel will stop the bullet and save my life.
Stacy: Excellent idea!
High noon. Buford is standing in the street ready to shoot when Fry arrives, his red blazer completely hiding the door to the stove. They back up as the clock on top of a church nearby starts bonging twelve. There is a large crowd around to watch the brawl.
Buford: Point your gun.
Fry: No. I thought we could settle this like men.
Buford then points his gun and shoots. The bullet is stopped by the stove door, and Fry pretends to fall over dead. Buford walks up to him laughing when Fry springs up and punches Buford. Buford tries to punch back, and Fry kicks him into a tombstone maker's display, breaking several tombstones in half. Buford gets up, and Fry kicks him again and he spins around, finally falling into a wagon filled with horse manure. When it's all over, only Buford's legs are sticking out of the manure, and Fry and the crowd are laughing like hell. Then some people on horseback are seen in the distance.
